Borno Hajj Committee Probes Female Pilgrim’s Delivery in Makkah

Borno State Committee on 2024 Hajj Operations has formed a five-member investigative committee to look into the circumstances surrounding the delivery of a female pilgrim in Makkah, Saudi Arabia.

The State Amirul Hajj, Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan made the announcement at media briefing at Borno state Liason office in Macca.

The committee was inaugurated following an official report by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) of a female pilgrim from the state delivered of baby boy in Macca few days before the commencement of this year’s pilgrimage.

Senator Lawan described the incident as avoidable and unfortunate, explaining that the Committee did its best in ensuring that thorough screening before airlift of any pilgrim to the Holy land.

We condemned the incident in its entirety, we will carry out a thorough investigation before making any official statement. The committee will investigate how the pilgrim was ferried to the Holy as against the rules laid down by NAHCON ” Kaka Shehu said.

The Amirul Hajj remarked that under the principle of fair hearing, the committee will also hear from the female pilgrim and others involved in the matter.

The committee’s terms of reference include; To investigate the circumstances surrounding the pilgrim’s medical examination and screening, ascertain the authenticity or otherwise of the medical examination report, identify whether or not there was conspiracy in aiding or abetting the act and identify parties involved in the conspiracy.

Correspondent Dauda Iliya in Macca reports that the committee will be chaired by Alhaji Mohammed Bukar, other members include Ali Kaka, ⁠Honourable Inna Galadima, Hajiya Adama Mohammed while Goni Fannami will serve as the Secretary.

The committee has one week  to conclude and submit its report.
