The Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage has submitted its report to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation after completing its assignment.

This was revealed in a statement signed by Segun Imohiosen, the Director of Information and Public Relations in the SGF’s office, on Monday.

Imohiosen stated that a formal presentation of the report will be made to President Bola Tinubu once the leadership of organized labor, as well as representatives from the government and the organized private sector, return from the ongoing International Labour Organisation (ILO) Conference in Geneva, Switzerland.

The SGF, Senator George Akume, expressed gratitude to the Chairman of the Committee, Bukar Goni Aji, and its members for their dedication and efforts.

President Tinubu inaugurated the 37-member Tripartite Committee on National Minimum Wage Tuesday, January 30, 2024, in accordance with the provisions of the Minimum Wage Act of 2019.

The committee was tasked with recommending a new national minimum wage for Nigerian workers in both the public and private sectors.

On June 7, 2024, the Committee recommended N62,000 as the new minimum wage and promised to forward their recommendation to President Bola Tinubu for necessary action.

However, organized labor during the negotiation proposed N250,000.

Comrade Festus Osifo, President of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), who spoke on behalf of organized labor, said Labor recommended the amount based on present economic realities, urging the federal government to consider the plight of workers and the cost of living.
