Zamfara Govt Settles Over N5b in Pension, Gratuity Arrears

Zamfara State Government says it inherited over thirteen point six billion naira in backlogged pensions and gratuities for state and local government staff, which have been unpaid since 2012.

Governor Dauda Lawal disclosed this during his Democracy Day speech held at Jibrin Bala Yakubu Secretariat in Gusau.

He stated that out of the inherited amount, five billion naira had been paid to some beneficiaries, while the remaining eligible beneficiaries would be paid soon, and urging them to remain calm.

Dauda lawal further explained that, dessified some challenges facing the state, the state internally Generated Revenue, IGR had increased with hundred percent amount to two billion naira instant of one hundred million naira annually.

According to him, the internally Generated Revenue of the state mostly comes from PAYE, (Pay as You Earn) which is mostly from the civil servant, therefore the governor called on captains of industries, business men and women, traders, commercial drivers and Okada riders to ensure prompt payment of their dues.

The governor also assured of the welfare of the state’s civil servants and that of local government staff adding that his administration has paid all the outstanding salaries of the state civil servants which they inherited from the first administration.

He also commended the effort of the security agencies working in the state for their contribution in their quest to end banditry activities in the state adding that, a lot has been achieved .

Earlier in his welcome address, the state PDP Chairman and also Chief of Staff of the government house Gusau, Mukhatar Lugga said the governor had achieved a lot in the area of security, education, health, agriculture, economic transformation and infrastructure.

He also assured to give the governor and his administration the necessary support as a party to achieved the desired objectives.
