Sokoto State: FG Commences Ground Breaking Of 250 Housing Units

Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering the renewed hope cities and estate housing program across the country.

Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Architect Ahmad Musa Dangiwa stated this at the ground breaking of 250 housing units in Sokoto state.

He said the federal government is working towards creating an efficient housing market that would give all Nigerians the right to secure decent and affordable homes , as a platform for active participation in economic development.

Dangiwa explained that the strategy of moving the housing sector forward, revolves around three pillars which includes economy, lifting one hundred million Nigerians out of poverty, and creating enabling environment for housing market for sustainable development in the sector.

The Minister further said that the cities will have 1,000 housing units per site in one location in each of the six geo-political zones in the country and FCT, while the estates will have 500 housing units per site in the remaining thirty  states

According to him, a cross subsidy plan that will allow housing units built under the Renewed Hope Cities is to be sold at commercial rate and a substantial percentage to be sold at concessionary rates to low- and medium-income Nigerians who are members of the Nigeria Labour Congress NLC and the Trade Union Congress TUC.

While appreciating the gesture, the state governor, Alhaji Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto said the program has clearly demonstrates the commitment of President Bola Ahmad Tinubu to delivering dividends of democracy to all Nigerians.

He disclosed that in order to complement the initiative, the state government has provided free land for the construction of the housing units.

Also speaking, the contractor of the housing units in Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Ali Bello said the project which would be completed in three months and will also be connected with electricity,  water and road network for effective service delivery.
