FG Donates Assorted Food Items To Borno Government

The Federal government has donated 36,214 50kg bags of assorted food items to Borno State government.

Presenting the items to the State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, Director General National Emergency Management Agency NEMA, Hajiya Zubaida Umar said items was part of the 42,000 metric tonnes of grains released from the national strategic reserve.

Represented by the North East Zonal Director Malam Yakubu Suleiman, the Director General remarked that the release of the food items was part of the renewed hope agenda to reduce the impact of the current economic downturn experienced in the county.

“The President approved the release of 42,000 metric tonnes of assorted food commodities from the strategic grain reserve under the custody of the federal ministry of Agriculture and Food Security. Today we are here to handover the items to Borno state government for distribution to the deserving beneficiaries ” Zubaida said.

Borno state Governor, Babagana Zulum acknowledged the support of the federal government to people of the state particularly to victims of Boko Haram insurgency.

He assured the President and the National Emergency Management Agency, that the food items donated will be distributed to the most vulnerable population in the state.

“I want to also assure you that no any diversion of the items will be found in Borno state. The items will be strictly and meticulously distributed to the deserving people of the state” Zulum assured.

Governor Zulum commended the federal government for supporting the resettlement effort of the state government, which has build resistance to returning communities.

Director General State Emergency Management Agency SEMA, Dr Muhammed Barkindo said priority will be given to female-headed and ill-health households as well as persons with disability.

Items donated include 11,880 bags of maize, 19,440 bags of sorghum and 5,130 bags of millet.
