Sokoto State Moves to Reposition Education Sector

Sokoto state government says it is working on modalities aimed at repositioning the education sector in the state.

The state Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Schools Alh. Tukur Alkali stated this while speaking to newsmen in the state.

Tukur Alkali said already his Ministry had conducted an annual School census with a view to collating data of Schools and students as well as teachers for effective transformation of the sector.

According to the past administration in the state has abandoned the education sector stressing that the present government is
Committed to reviving the the sector for sustainable development.

The commissioner disclosed that already, the state government has commenced infrastructural development of some schools and constructing boreholes in both basic and secondary schools across the state.

Tukur Alkali noted that the state is also taking measures to enrolled out of the school children into classes.

He explained that Sani Dingyadi secondary School would be upgraded to unity school as well as providing state of the art facilities to Yabo Unity School in the state.

He said the present administration is making arrangements to ensure more funding for feeding students in the state boarding schools stressing that the government had commenced settlement of contractors supplying food stuff to the boarding schools in the state.

The commissioner said the state government is also working with development partners to commence a five year program aimed at transforming the sector for socio-security and economic development.

The commissioner urged teachers and staff under his ministry to be ready for the task ahead, adding that the state government is committed to delivering its promises especially the education related nine points agenda in the state.
