Kano State : CITAD Commences Artie Robot , Coding Training For Girls

Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) has launched Artie Robot and coding training for young girls in Kano state.

 

The program aimed at empowering young girls in Kano State , targets thirty students in three public secondary schools in the first phase.

 

Speaking at the official launch of the program at Government Girls Secondary School Dorayi Karama, CITAD Executive Director Engineer Yunusa Zakari, represented by Buhari Abba, said the initiative aims to enhance secondary school students skills in technology and coding, as well as empowering them to pursue careers in the growing field of information technology.

 

He pointed out that they believe that girls have the potential to be future leaders in technology, saying that the program would provide them with the foundation and confidence they need to succeed.

 

The Technical Officer Innovation and Creativity CITAD Abdulrahman Babatunde, explained that coding and robotics skills are becoming increasingly important for everyone, and young secondary school girls are no exception.

 

He stressed that, learning to code is like learning a new language that opens doors to a world of possibilities and empowerment to create and innovate.

 

The Executive Secretary Kano State Senior Secondary Schools Management Board (KSSSMB), Dr. Kabiru Ado Zakirai, commended CITAD for organizing the training.

 

 

Dr. Zakirai, who was represented by Malam Umar Yakasai, explained that traditionally, STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) have had fewer women.

 

“By getting involved in robotics and coding early on, girls can develop a passion for these subjects and pursue exciting careers in the future”

 

He urged students to utilize the knowledge which would empower them to become self reliant.

 

Some of the students who spoke to Radio Nigeria Maimuna Shu’aibu and Fatima Bashir said they have learnt various skills on the use of robots for various tasks such as painting , drawing , writing among others.
