Kaduna State Govt Opens Drug Abuse Community Recovery Center

Kaduna State Government has inaugurated a Drug Abuse Community Recovery Center in Ungwan Maichibi, Kaduna South Local Government Area, to cater to people suffering from drug abuse, substance abuse, and behavioral disorders at the community level.

The State Governor Malam Uba Sani while inaugurating the center said three additional centers would be set up at the end of the year at Ungwan Kanawa, Zaria, and Kafanchan.

The Governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Government SSG, Dr. Muazu AbdulKadir Mayere noted that the Center would be in addition to four drug rehabilitation centers slated for Kachia, Chikun, Igabi, and Ikara local governments.

Governor Sani also highlighted other notable achievements of his led administration under KADBUSA in one year to include Setting up 15 Primary Health Care based Drop Centers to provide primary level substance abuse and mental health care to people in their communities.

As well as setting up 4 Community Prevention Centers for Children and Adolescents in Zaria, Igabi, Kaduna North, and Kaduna South LG Areas.

Established Community Drug Abuse Intervention Forums in Partnership with the Zazzau Emirate in 3 Districts – Rigasa, Kawo, and Barnawa”

The governor further revealed that his government had also Launched Kaduna Children Amplified Prevention System in partnership with the UNODC.

Launched the “Unplugged” School Based Prevention Program in 15 Government Secondary Schools in Kaduna and trained 90 secondary school teachers on implementing the programme”

According to him, the state government has also trained 60 PHC staff on Drug Abuse Screening, Counselling techniques and Enrolled 162 children aged 10 -17 from vulnerable poor communities for Community based literacy, empowerment, and life skills training as part of the Agency’s Prevention.

Developed a Digital App/Platform for enhanced service delivery including: Screening for Substance Use Disorders and Mental Illnesses, Trauma Assessment, Social Support Analysis among others”
